How to calculate travel time
Divide the distance by the average speed: time = distance ÷ speed. With miles and mph, the result is in hours. The calculator converts units when necessary and adds your planned breaks.
Example: 150 miles at 60 mph
150 ÷ 60 = 2.5 hours, or 2 hours 30 minutes. Adding a 20-minute break gives a total of 2 hours 50 minutes.
Choosing an average speed
Road type, traffic and speed changes affect your average. A posted speed limit may be higher than the average you can maintain. If your average already includes stopped time, leave the breaks field at zero to avoid counting those stops twice.
This is a distance-and-speed estimate. It does not use a route map, live traffic or road conditions.
